Cannot afford the $199 nomination? Nominate for free. There are hot things and hot people among the lower earners too, so the hottest is chosen regardless of income. A free nomination includes a video call with the nominee. It activates when it has 101 votes at $1.99 each: then our staff research the nominee's finances and interview them. If the nominee really could not afford the $199, all votes count and the nomination stays free. If they could have paid, the first 100 votes pay the $199 fee, plus 1 vote that counts.

Free means no fee up front. The nomination activates at 101 votes; then we check that the nominee really could not pay the fee, in a finance check and an interview. If it was not true, the first 100 votes pay the fee. If 101 votes are not reached by the end of the year, the money is not refundable: we ask everyone who nominated or voted whether to nominate again at no extra cost, and if nobody replies the money goes to another pending nominee (terms).
